1994 was a momentous year; the Channel Tunnel opened, Nelson Mandela became South Africa’s President, Brazil won the World Cup & Wet Wet Wet topped the charts with “Love is all Around.“ In April that year, Andy Procter decided he’d had enough of working in London – it was time to move on & start his own business. With his wealth of IT experience stretching from London to Bristol and a CV full of lots of jobs (all rather boring) – A & N was conceived and Andy started doing ad-hoc bespoke consultancy here & there. It was also time to come back to the Northwest.
Starting a business whilst in a full-time job wasn’t working so after a couple of years in Merseyside looking after the IT at a Housing Association, Andy moved back to Lancashire & took a part-time job with Business Link as a Consultant for half of the week so that he could spend the remaining sixty hours a week developing A & N – yes sixty hours a week is needed starting a business!
1997 was the year we won at the Oscars with “The English Patient.” Also that year, Andy tied the knot with Nicci & they set-up home in Freckleton. As the Millennium approached, the A & N workload increased, the client list grew & the A & N consultancy work was now taking Andy as far away as the Middle East.
Andy had reached the point he could leave Business Link & focus entirely on A & N full-time.
Landmark events for Andy in 2001 included the birth of his first of three children & a complete rebuild & barn conversion in Barnacre near Garstang. Instead of the kitchen table, A & N now had as the office “the spare bedroom“ & a posh cabin to work from – a major upgrade!
Growth through the next few years saw two significant developments. Firstly, A & N decided to get proper accommodation at Bushell St Mill in Preston & the first member of staff was appointed – Danny Lett. Employing Danny is still considered by Andy as one of the best decisions he has ever made.
More & more work came in, the development of a great client base & staff numbers grew through the first decade of this century with highly experienced Chris Wynne also joining A & N.
2010 saw the launch of A & N’s cloud service portfolio for SME’s develop into their SME suite “Cloud30” closely followed by their backup & disaster recovery solution for small businesses “Reassure60.” Recent years have seen the appointment of Rob Gibbs as Operations Manager & further development of the business. Rob & Andy’s vision has enabled A & N to develop the portfolio of cloud services into a superb SME offering & staff numbers are now approaching ten.
It has been a great 25 years, but rather than looking back, A & N’s primary focus is looking forward & the prospects for the next few years are sensational as the whole world experiences a technological industrial revolution driven by advances in IT. Being part of this & delivering great services & solutions for Lancashire SME’s is what A & N are all about.
